Resources and Equipment

In order of priority, Mosul University Library is urgently in need of:

1. Equipment for temporary library sites including bookshelves, tables, chairs, computers, printers, photocopiers, air cooling units, etc. 
2. Up-to-date reference books and periodicals, especially dictionaries, encyclopedias, medical texts, scientific materials and publications of the United Nations Statistics Division, among others (N.B. transport and logistics inside Iraq will be arranged).
3. Long-term partnerships with other major libraries so that our students, faculty and researchers have continued and sustained access to e-materials from other university and public library holdings.
4. Digitisation devices to scan and record recovered materials from the old Mosul Library.
5. Training for Mosul University Library staff in the most up-to-date library sciences, IT and related fields like English translation. Mosul University Library staff has now been away from their work since 2014 and missed out on critical advances in these fields. They are in need of opportunities and scholarships to study abroad to gain this knowledge. International experts are also needed to provide seminars to our staff on-site so that the new Mosul University Library will become one of the most technologically advanced in the region.
6. Lastly, Mosul University Library will have to be completely rebuilt, a major undertaking that will require significant financial and institutional support. The library is much more than storage for books; it is a centre of intellectual and cultural life and is vital to Mosul’s reconstruction and to building a future of peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding in Iraq. The new Mosul University Library will be a place of the future, which utilises the latest information technologies to digitise collections and share materials with other centres of higher learning worldwide. This new facility is envisioned to gather students, university staff and city residents in a modern space that will also host cultural events, exhibitions, festivals, film screenings and more in order to serve the cause of progress and build new horizons of hope.
